GROW Hopkins County Campaign wins LG&E Award for Innovation
April 29th, 2004 - GROW Hopkins County, a local education campaign developed by the Madisonville/Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation, was recently awarded the LG&E Community Award for Innovation. The award was presented at a meeting of the Kentucky Industrial Development Council held in Richmond, KY on April 15th.

GROW is an acronym that stands for Grassroots Revitalization of the Workforce. The goal of this campaign is to reach citizens in our area encouraging educational advancement. The current GROW Hopkins County campaign membership consists of representatives from Economic Development, the Hopkins County Fiscal Court, the Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Education Madisonville Community College, Murray State University and Department for Employment Services, along with other business and industry officials. Several members of the GROW Hopkins County committee attended the KIDC meeting to accept the award.

According to Mr. Danny L. Koon, Executive Director of the Madisonville/Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation, "this award reinforces the fact that our community is continually working to develop and implement new and innovative programs to bring new opportunity and progress to our area through the education of our workforce."

Mr. Michael Hunt, Chairman of the GROW Hopkins County committee, said that "the value of lifelong education cannot be overstated, we will continue in our efforts to bring the message of education to all citizens of our community."

Mr. Alan McGinnis, Manager - Economic Development, for LG&E Energy Corporation says that "LG&E is especially pleased to present this award to the GROW Hopkins County campaign. The campaign's effort to focus on education is in keeping with one of LG&E's main corporate philosophies. We look forward to continuing our support of Hopkins County and other communities in our service area."
